How To Remove Candle Wax From Carpet?

Mar 15, 2023 | Carpet Cleaning

If you have just spilled candle wax on your plush carpet, don’t panic. Even though candle wax might seem like a mess, you can get it out from the carpet with some easy steps and a calm mind. Here are some easy ways to remove candle wax from carpet.

Steps To Remove Candle Wax From Carpet

1. Things You’ll Need

To remove wax from your carpet, you will need to have the following tools with you.

  • A blunt tool (like a butter knife.)
  • An appropriate carpet cleaning solution.
  • A Spoon.
  • An Iron.

Don’t worry if you don’t have the exact tools available to you, but try to use these tools for more effective results.

2. Scrape The Wax

To remove most of the wax, scrape it gently with a blunt tool like a butter knife. Don’t use extra force while scraping the wax, as that can damage the delicate carpet fibres.

After you have scraped most of the wax, vacuum the leftover wax and trim the fuzz caused by the wax with scissors.

3. Use Heat On the Carpet

You can use heat to draw out the carpet that has penetrated the carpet fibres. Just do the following.

  • Take a white towel and dampen it with little water.
  • Place the damp cloth over the wax.
  • Take the iron and set it to the high setting.
  • The heat from the iron will draw out the wax from inside the carpet.
  • Hold the iron over the wax for up to 20-30 secs. And repeat until you absorb the wax on the towel.
  • If the towel or cloth you are using gets bloated with wax, replace it with another one.

Tip: Never use a paper cloth instead of a towel or other fabric, as it can burn and lead to fire hazards.

4. Remove the Stain and Clean the Carpet

Even when you have removed the wax from your carpet, there is a high chance that it will cause staining on your carpet or discolour it. To remove the wax stain, do the following.

  • Take a good-quality carpet cleaning solution and scrub the solution into the carpet fibres with a spoon.
  • Dab the solution with a dry cloth and let the carpet air dry.

How to Remove Candle Wax from Carpet Without Iron?

If you don’t want to risk damaging your carpet with an iron, you can use the freezing method, as it doesn’t require the use of an iron. You have to do the following.

  • Place a plastic bag filled with ice cubes over the area with wax.
  • Press the bag to harden the wax with cold.
  • After ensuring the area is hard enough, scrape the wax off with a spoon or butter knife.
  • Vacuum the wax debris from the carpet.
  • To remove the wax stain from the carpet, dip a cloth in rubbing alcohol and dab the stain with it.
  • Use a different cloth to blot dry the area and let the carpet air dry.
